Definition:

Blu-ray disk is a high-capacity optical disk medium developed for recording, rewriting and playing back high definition video. It can store a large amount of data and designed to supersede the DVD. It was developed by the personal computer and consumer electronic companies called Blu-Ray Disk Association. 

 

Function of Blu-Ray Disk :

• It store and transfer more data than a traditional DVD. 

•  It has high capacity for recording. 

•   It display the high definition video.

Interesting facts about Blu-ray Disk : 

• The name Blu-ray  has been derived from the underlying technology, which utilities a blue-violet laser to read and write data. 

• Over a 9 hours of HD video can be stored on a 50 GB disk, and around 23 hours of SD video can be stored in 50 GB disk.

 • A single layer disk can hold 25 GB of data, while a dual layer disk can hold 50       GB of data . 

•  Blu-Ray disk, HD DVD players were made commercially available starting in   2006.
